Stephen Gilarde (M.O.O.N.) is a young producer from Massachusetts who has made a name for himself in 2012 following the release of his debut self-titled EP in late 2011, and subsequent follow-up, the Particles EP. His unique production style saw critical attention when his debut EP was placed in the video-game Hotline Miami, available on Steam, and he earned a headlining slot for his debut show during this year’s Together Festival in Boston, MA. He earned a nomination for “Best Electronic Act of 2012” in the Boston Phoenix Music Poll of 2012. This budding young producer is quietly at work building on his initial success, and 2013 promises even more news from one of the area’s most talented young musicians.

The Janus Mirror is likely one of the most ambitious records that anyone who listens to it will have heard in a while. Virtually every song on it is jam-packed with creative ideas and not every one of them connects. However, the moments that do connect represent some astounding gut-punches that are enough to leave just about anyone reeling, demonstrating a potential that could make them untouchable if they lived up to it. There are some scattered moments of arresting tranquility that balance out the aggression quite nicely and make for a stark contrast, but the band seems to be having the most fun when they’re operating at their fiercest level. They’re very adept at the dynamic the Veils utilized so effectively on Nux Vomica. While The Janus Mirror might be a shambling wreck, it’s impossible to look away from and represents forward thinking—something we need much more of. - Pop Matters

Emanuel and the Fear is a band. They live in Brooklyn NYC. There used to be 11 of them, but now there are only 6.

Emanuel and the Fear have been advised to explain what they sound like. They can’t, however, seem to agree on a genre classification since the only thing all 6 of them can agree on is that Marvin Gaye’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the 1983 NBA all-star game is a brilliant piece of music. If you call them a rock band, nobody will be offended.

“Bear Language are doing an excellent job resisting the current trends in indie rock. Instead of slow jams and walls of reverb, the Boston trio has opted for walloping bass lines, distortion-heavy vocals and a real emphasis on melody,” Cameron Matthews of Diffuser.fm writes.

Bear Language came out of Boston in 2011 with a 5 song self titled EP. In 2012 they released The Ventriloquist, as a 9 minute conceptual piece, divided into 3 songs. After making an appearance at SXSW in 2013, Bear Language released their full length album titled Rememory, along with a music video of their single Meet Me Outside. Their sound is aggressive, but Luca’s captivating vocal melodies bring the songs into a melodic, catchy and more digestible sound. The band has been on a hiatus since the release of Rememory, and it is undetermined whether a sophomore LP is in production. However, their fan-base continues to grow as their audience accepts their ambitious sound in contemporary alternative rock music.

Adelyn Rose recently released their second full length album, Ordinary Fantasy. This power house of an indie pop album rewards the repeat listener. Don’t be fooled by the pretty pop package these songs come in; the album digs its claws into listeners and brings them into a tumultuous world of raw guitar licks and dissonant soundscapes. Songs like “Even” exemplify this by taking you on a journey from its depths of moody drones and noisy drums to euphoric synth lines and elegant vocal melodies. I talked to the band’s percussionist Dave Power to get insights into the process behind what will surely be a seminal release in the band’s career.

Adelyn Rose is an indie rock band from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They have been touring and recording together for the past four years, and released their second full-length, Ordinary Fantasy, in February. Their sound has been described as a mixture of David Bazan, Sharon van Etten, and St Vincent. They are planning another tour this August.
