In the village named Black lived four friends - One Eyed Grandpa, Beaver, Woodbot and Entliczek-Pentliczek. They all loved woodworking, that’s why they became friends. One day Grandpa shared his dream - to surf the underwater worlds. Soon after, the friends started to build a submarine. Time was passing, they were working hard at full speed, with chickens running underfoot. Lazy Madonna grumbled that now there was no place for an apple to fall in the garden. Entliczek was particularly pleased with this phrase. As autumn was approaching, the villagers had a funeral for Daimbeg with musicians playing the Imperial Funeral March during the ceremony. Rumors spread in the village that he had been doing business with a local Rasta gang and had overdosed. So sad, he was an important man. There was a vast and mysterious lake near the village. The silence of summer evenings was shaken by hundreds of mistuned frog voices. They were the owners of this place. No one before dared to go into these waters; mesmerized villagers observed the waters in awe from afar. Nonetheless, our friends were ready for the first run of the submarine. The fearless team went into the deep waters, despite all the warnings. Nobody saw them ever again. Grandpa woke up lying on hot sand. His body didn’t feel the swelter. His eye was sticky with sand, his mustache was covered with some kind of powder. A couple of times he eagerly sucked hot air in through his nostrils. At that same moment the Sirens of the Desert solemnly began their song. Memories lit up in his head. Immersion. The Universal Frog at the bottom of the lake. Threeptile. Face-to-face meeting, so close. Telepathic communication. “How’s life?” - was her question. What happened next?

jerrylucky.com review: “Hladikarna will now be the third musical endeavor I’ve had the opportunity review from the Russian outfit calledIWKC which if you remember stands for I Will Kill Chita. It must be said that IWKC are a very eclectic band when it comes to the music they perform. Each release has tended to be quite different. Sometimes they sound like a symphonic outfit, sometimes a little heavier and sometimes a bit jazzy. They are really hard to pin down style-wise. So it should come as no surprise that Hladikarna is different yet again. This time we’re treated to eight compositions clocking in at forty-three minutes with three tunes over the six minute mark and overall there’s a heavier, psychedelic feel that is blended with a bit of industrial Krautrock, which is then inserted into compositions that display a distinct proggy vibe. Big booming distorted bass lines crash into churning rhythm guitar riffs all colliding into some hypnotic groove laden tunes. These guys seem to work especially hard playing music that is difficult to pin down stylistically. All that said, its music that bears all the hallmarks of Prog, with its changing dynamics, shifting time and tempo, its start and stop approach, not to mention the fact they incorporate all those other musical influences. The music of IWKC is intriguing to say the least in that you really are never sure what you might hear next. Bottom line is, hidden deep in the music of IWKC is a full-fledged Prog band that is trying to get out and be heard. Whether that will ever happen remains to be seen. It could go either way. Till then I’m enjoying what I hear. “

This story started a long time ago, when the participants of Disen Gage scoured in the night in the dangerous vicinity of the Moscow railroad station “Sortirovochnaya” trying to capture fascinating sonic roulades emitted by the wagons. At the same time, on the other side of the globe, in the State of Iowa, astronomers succeed in converting strange signals coming from the orbit of Jupiter into audible sound palettes. Later, in an Australian swamp, Mrs. Toad said to Mr. Crocodile: “Dude, why not concoct a Tops-of-the-Pops album of all those ingredients, one on which we would sing all together?” “I’ll call Mr. Bear, my Siberian friend. He knows how to mix all stuff with a beat”, answered Mr. Crocodile. Finally, the Nature, crafted from sounds of planets, trains and animals including higher primates, is now in your hands. Still we wonder how the human ear will take this… …and songs of the mushroom kingdom and bacteria are coming next.

review by Steve Woodier: “In 2014, Moon Mistress, an awesome band in their own right, reformed with Dekonstruktor as their new moniker, and released the album ‘Eating The Universe’ a monumental slab of acid soaked doom sludge. Dekonstruktor likes to think of itself as ‘lo-fi, but really, they’re doing themselves an injustice, because whilst this release is by no means brightly polished, the quality of the recording is enough to enhance the sheer immensity of the riffs.

After a brief into, we are subjected to the low end fuzz of the title track ‘ Eating The Universe’ before the bulldozing, punishing ‘14’ assaults the ears with a two minute blast of deathly sludge. My personal favourite ‘To the Red Part 2’ follows. This is one of those tracks that can’t be played singly. Once finished, you can’t help but play it again and again, mesmerised by the spacey, grooves interrupted by a heavy psychedelic interlude, before catapulting you back into orbit. ‘Mindcutter’ doesn’t bring you back down to Earth, but rather crushes you with its doom sludge vacuum before the album finishes off with the coma inducing, industrial tinged monster of a track ‘Dekonstruktor’

Subsequent releases became more and more experimental, too experimental for my tastes, but the album ‘Eating The Universe’ doesn’t just eat it, it chews it up and spits it right out.”

review by Anders Ekdahl: “Back in 2016 I interviewed this band. I never got around to reviewing their album back then but I liked what I heard then. And I like what I hear on this EP from 2013. If you are not familiar with THE GRAND ASTORIA I can tell you that they are like a cross between Black Sabbath, KYUSS and Monster Magnet. Equal parts stoner, psychedelia and heavy metal mixed to a brew that is so tasteful that you just want more and more of it. A really cool band that grooves like a beast. If you don’t like this you better reboot your taste. This is some cool stuff.”

This is the debut album of the Russian experimental group Juice Oh Yeah, whose style is influenced by such genres as stoner doom, blues and artists such as Earth, Morphine and King Crimson. The group’s calling card is its original, innovative sound, which is created through the combination of overdriven, high-gain fretless bass and wild, chaotic drums spiced with cowbell. Presiding over this propulsive blend is a powerful male voice, which reverberates amid the groove. Although the music is mainly based on the blues scale, some tracks are standing out for their orientalisms, such as “Krug”, melodies and rythms of which are inspired by Klezmer tradition.

The mood of the album, titled Sila Vselennoy (Power of the Universe), can be described as one of pathos. It’s enticingly mystical . . . almost religious.

The whole album gives an impression of a dark ceremony; a ritual that ends with the revelation of light.

review by Anders Ekdahl: “Instrumental noise rock from Moscow, Russia. Is that something that you fancy? Because you should. This is some really cool stuff. JAHROOM might sound like a character in a Star Wars movie but there is nothing science-fiction about this. Other than the journey your mind takes you on when you listen to this. When listening to this I can feel how the musicians are getting into the groove. And so do I. it is not hard to be entangled in the universe that is “Cut-Price Goods”. This is another cool instrumental album that has come my way.”

Kiddy — the first album created after Pree Tone line-up changes during cold winter nights. In the modern individualistic world it is hard to see things through someone else’s eyes, see things differently. But they tried.

Kiddy contain’s six stories, described in a way kindergarten folks see them. Nice chance to open your mind wide and become 5-year-olds for the next 45 minutes.

“Doggy” is an act of collective spontaneity recorded live in concert. It’s a psychedelic trip full of ups and downs, snow-capped mountain tops and plateaus, opened by a scene of the titans of the conventional world falling, filled with the singing of exotic birds and other tropical forest dwellers. Rare glimpses of bright sunlight are interrupted here by the disturbing and uneven steps of the broken mechanism.

Having recovered after a two-year hiatus the Moscow-based psychedelic noise-rockers Motherfathers are returning with a new line-up. This time it’s a trio focused on the improvised music but the loudness and specific abandon that characterize their sound remain intact. This new album is a collaboration between Motherfathers and the improvisational one-man project Ь! represented by Dmitriy Syrtsov who takes his place behind the drum set. The original band members - Dmitriy Peitsch (guitar) and Maxim Elizarov (electronics) look at this release as a back to the roots album, a revival of their initial approach that formed the core of the band’s 2007 debut album “Kolchak!”.

Oil Painting “Bullfinches arrived” (Cut-1) is replaced with a cover story - rowdy rockers on the move and have a good rest (Cut-37). My favorite track - Cut-38 is filled with oriental melodies, neopsychedelia and even a stoner doom. The final (Cut-39) is impregnated with the whiskey and the desert, through which our trio on the red chevrolet convertible hurries. The plot about racing in the desert should be out in time, but that’s another story;)

review by Anders Ekdahl: “…In a way I want to say that they are a heavier Jefferson Airplane that have been overdosing on Black Sabbath and even some Hawkwind. But no matter who they remind me off this is one hell of an album.”

review by Santtu aka Dj Astro: “Anyway, this 7-track, 41-minute CD was released already in 2013 but against my principles of only sticking to recent releases I will still give it a short review. Now, Spaceking of course is a cool band name, although maybe not the most original. Looking at their Bandcamp site I can see that this seems to be their third release after a couple of EP’s. They have also released one more album, The Piper at the Gates of Stone, in 2016 (download only, I guess). This five-piece from Saint Petersburg plays a heavy and experimental mix of metal, prog, stoner and sludge and I do enjoy them. The album is mostly instrumental which works well, but a track called “Rosemary” also has angry sounding vocals and “Judgment” some spoken word samples. There are also some grunge vibes I think, and I dig the groovy riffs and the sort of unexpected aspect of the band. The last track “Stardust” is the longest at 8:02 and has more synth-oriented parts that remind me of Pink Floyd which is never a bad thing in my Astral Charts. I bet this band might win more fans all over the world if they just were given a chance. So check them out!”
