The new Animal Crossing remix album from Ben Briggs and ectogemia is out just in time for New Leaf!

Note from Ben Briggs: Working with ectogemia on K.K. and Friends has been a really fun and natural experience from start to finish, and we’re proud to be showcasing our hard work on GameChops! The music from the Animal Crossing series is fantastic, and we just wanted to tribute that in a way that fans of the games could truly appreciate… what all started from one remix became a huge, wonderful collaboration, and I hope you all love it.

Benjamin Briggs makes music that gets stuck in your mother’s head. Video game remixes, punchy dance music with a side of videogame sounds and melodic twists… creativity is crucial.

Nathan Becker, aka ectogemia, is an Indianapolis-based, multi-genre, independent composer who focuses on integrating chiptunes with modern instrumentation and production techniques.

In the year 1987, NASA launched the last of America’s deep space probes - Ranger 3. Aboard this compact starship - The OneUps– Mr. M, TY, VCR and J. Booty - were to experience cosmic forces beyond all comprehension. In a freak mishap, their life support systems were frozen by temperatures beyond imagination. Ranger 3 was blown out of its planned trajectory into an orbit one thousand times more vast, an orbit which was to return The OneUps to Earth, 500 years later.

HORN was an exceptionally fun (and remarkably tricky) game to score and off the top I must thank Matthew Grimm, Justin Corcoran, Chip Sineni and Jarod Pranno from Phosphor Games for inviting me into the world of Reynes.

Coming straight out of JOURNEY (where our music engine capabilities were seemingly limitless) made for a bit of a technical culture shock in adapting to the relative constraints in an iOS environment. But, that said, the game was far from lacking in inspiration. It’s a really beautiful game, and the narrative was instantly intriguing.

My deepest thanks and congratulations to all the brilliant soloists and orchestral musicians who played on this score. You all are at the core of what drives me as a composer, and it was an honor to share this adventure with you.

Austin Wintory began his obsession with composing back when he was ten years old, when he discovered Jerry Goldsmith’s scores to Patton and A Patch of Blue. After a busy high school career composing for the student orchestras, Austin went on to study at NYU and USC with composers Morten Lauridsen, Charles Fussell, and Erica Muhl. Never satisfied with working in a single medium, Austin has worked in the concert world, film music, video games, and miscellaneous others.

In March 2012, the PlayStation3 game Journey was released, after three years of work. The game instantly became Sony’s fastest-selling PlayStation title, and the soundtrack album debuted on the Billboard charts higher than any original score in gaming history. In December 2012, more history was made when it was announced that Journey had become the first-ever Grammy-nominated videogame score. The score subsequently won an Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences D.I.C.E. award, two British Academy Awards, a Spike TV VGA, and IGN’s “Overall Music of the Year,” along with six G.A.N.G. nominations and host of others.

Pokemon Remix
Metal Gear Solid Remix Medley
Zelda 'Dark World' Dubstep Remix
Ice Cap Zone Remix
Cosmo Canyon Remix

-Cosmo Canyon: I composed the track from scratch using the original melody of Nobuo Uematsu’s “Cosmo Canyon”. It’s easy for me to say that Final Fantasy 7 is my favorite game ever made, and the timeless OST makes for great revisited music. Remixed in the style of EDM.

-Metal Gear Solid Remix: The rich soundtrack of the Metal Gear series is a favorite of mine, so I had to add a small touch of my own to it. I composed all the orchestra from scratch using the familiar melodies and harmonies of the OST. I added a small bit of electronic influence to make it pop.

-Zelda Dark World Remix: My favorite track from all of the Zelda series games: The Dark World theme from Link to the past. From all the music in that game I remembered and loved this song the most. I remixed it in the style of dubstep, while keeping the original melodies, harmonies, and intricacies intact. I prefer my remixes to have a nostalgic feel.

-Pokemon Battle Theme Remix: This is honestly a song that myself and everyone else loves, and I knew it had potential to make a hard-hitting intense remix, so I made it that way. In the style of Dubstep. Its filled with energy and heavy bass.

-Ice Cap Zone Remix: Sonic had a ton of great tracks, but this one stuck out to me as a great candidate to be remixed into a dance track. I wanted to do something other than the usual chemical plant remixes you find. Its a fast moving, hard hitting dance track.

The Year 200X debut album “We Are Error,” a compilation of 13 tracks from games for the NES.

“I own both [the CD and t-shirt], and thus can say, with the utmost conviction, that you need them as well. The album itself is a collection of 8-bit NES classics re-imagined as blistering, aggressive, yet still imminently accessible metal movements, and the shirt simply let’s passersby know that you too understand that beneath the cheerful exterior of the theme music from Ducktales’ Moon Level beats a twisted heart of broken glass, barbed wire, and gore-stained guitar strings.”

Y2KX was formed in early 2006 by Tim Lydon and Tony Oliver. Joined by friends Rance Tatroe, Ian Whiters, Jake Bryan, and occasionally Kyle Hoke, they came together for two purposes: to have fun, and to play the awesomest guitar-driven video game covers that they can. Almost immediately, they were featured in Nintendo Power Magazine (June, 2006). Their debut album “We Are Error,” a compilation of 13 tracks from games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, was released in August 2008 to great reviews by the video game community and fans of metal alike.

The band is currently working on new material, which will broaden their game selection by including music from systems other than the NES.
