Mr. Universum was the hero of the galaxy until a bad alien ensured that he decreased some kilos.
The world and the whole universe were in sweet harmony. Mr. Universum, the uncrowned king and hero of the universe provided for security and the peace for all the peoples in the galaxy. He already struck many glorious battles, triumphed in many fights.
Only with one nature our hero got along never completely: with the little green muscle eater. Now and then, always exactly then, if Mr. Universum counted to few on it, this small poison dwarf emerged - in order to make for the hero hell hot, so far however without success.
Until someday…

Attention: can only be played with 2 (or more) players!
At Protovision we believe in innovation.
That’s why we always think one step further when it’s about giving you the most enjoyable playing experience on your Commodore 64. One of the most successful game concept ever probably is Bomberman, Dynablasters or how you ever would like to call the principle of bomb-hunting. There are several versions for the C64, but Bomb Mania by Protovision sets new standards once more.
Here, more than the usual two players can fight each other in the bomb labyrinth - up to four players can take part at the same time! If you now think of complicated keyboard handling, just forget it again.
You and your friends can play Bomb Mania with up to four (4) joysticks simultanously! By means of a Userport interface, which you can order together with the game or, with a little knowledge, can also build yourself, two more joysticks can be connected - and the fun can begin! And this interface is not just for Bomb Mania - it is supported by a number of other games, too: Other titles by Protovision making use of the 4 Player Interface are Tanks 3000, Hockey Mania, Team Patrol and Snacks 4 Snakes. Furthermore, some already existing games were adapted to work with the 4 Player Interface (more information here).
Bomb Mania offers even more than the 4 player mode: The gameplay itself was enhanced with several features which are not available in any other of the Bomberman-variants on the C64. Let’s take a look at the extras: Next to more bombs and stronger explosion vehemence you can, with the right extra, deploy remote bombs (R-bombs) which can be blasted remotely. There is another extra which gives you the ability to kick bombs around just like a ball - your opponents will look quite surprised. And there’s even more - the game offers eight different levels:
Mushroom Party
Mushrooms pop up everywhere that carry on the bombs' explosions and thus cause heavy chain reactions.
Ghost Attack
Some nice ghosts with R-bombs in the back-pack tend to appear here. The explosions are mostly fatal - at least to some players.
Kick It
Here every player is able to kick the bombs with their feet (without collecting the corresponding extra). The best direction for this probably would be the position of some other players.
Night Shift
Never sleep, never rest - Lay bombs at night! And train your memory, because you can see the bombs only when it flashes - and this does not happen that often!
Hide and Seek
Here you can hide wonderfully in the pipes... or place bombs inside them. But beware, the other players might do this as well!
Under Pressure
The screen is bricked up after some time. This is going to be a narrow thing really!
Crazy!
All players are fully equipped with lots of bombs and high explosion range. Good luck while trying to escape!
Just fun
This a normal round, no special happenings here. If there wouldn't be this time pressure...
Especially with such a great game concept, graphics and sound shouldn’t be just average. That’s why Bomb Mania offers four nicely pixelled graphic sets within the game as well as overlay-sprites for the players, which of course are animated in many phases. A perfect fitting in-game music accompanies the action, and surprisingly, it won’t get on your nerves even after hundreds of rounds. :)

Hockey Mania is a sports game for two or four players.
Each player controls one Hockey field player. He can snatch the puck, and can knock against the opponent team’s players.
In the 4 player mode, each team has 2 field players and a goalie, which is controlled by the computer.
The firing speed of the puck can be strengthened by longer pressing of the fire button. A bar line display within the lower border visualizes the procedure accordingly. The more strongly the shot, the more highly the risk of a miss becomes. The puck then soars, partly uncontrolled, over the heads of the players.
On the playing field coincidentally appear small yellow stars, which can be collected. Per round a player can get hold of maximally 9 pieces. After a third was played to end, the collected stars can be exchanged against upgrades of the player skills.
Available are: Higher maximum speed, faster turns and more grip on the ice. After everyone increased the skills of his player, steering itself is accordingly differently on the playfield. The Upgrades are important, in order to be superior of the opponent team.
The game uses the multicolor mode for menus and other graphics. The playing field was drawn in hires. Like already in Team Patrol, Glenn Rune Gallefoss was engaged again for the audio composition. He contributed 2 complete music pieces for the menus, 4 jingles for interruptions in the expiration of play (goals etc….), plus 19 (!!!) sound effects.

Tanks 3000 is the fourth Protovision game for up to four players.
These games have enjoyed increasing popularity at scene parties since they offer a lot of entertainment for players and audience alike. And Tanks 3000 is no exception there!
Two to four players take to their tanks and battle against each other.
The objective is to destroy your adversaries with your guided rockets and to be the last man standing. And to make sure this won’t get boring even after a lot of play, we thought of some special features for Tanks 3000…
You are welcomed to the game by an atmospheric intro, which is unusual for this kind of game. An option menu follows, with more options than are offered by most C64 games and you can adjust all of these settings at any time.
So if you thought you’d seen and experienced everything, you can find a new setting that will make the game feel fresh again.

by Remute
This EP tells profound stories of (troubled?) communcations between man and computer. Released on 7” Vinyl and 5,25” floppy disk - yeah, the huge ones. Stories full of electro bliss, but also some intense techno discourse. Going ‘back to my roots’ here as the floppy disk tunes are produced on a Commodore C64 homecomputer - you can insert the floppy into this computer and the music will play and make the SID-soundchip dance!
Hamburg-based Techno artist Remute has a very ‘technological’ approach to this genre - intense interaction with technology made him do the most amazing things: Remute’s career began in the early 2000s with his first EP ‘Hypnoconsole’ which unmistakably drew inspiration from the flickering world of early 80s and 90s computergames and acid-filled rave-sequences mixed up in a timeless punky DIY-way - even in 2017 ‘Hypnoconsole’ is still considered as a ‘punk techno’ reference by Bandcamp. The success of his first release made Remute tour for years and perform at acclaimed festivals and clubs like for example Golden Pudel and Berghain. Various contemporary high-profile labels got aware of Remute - in 2006 he released his self-titled debut album via the legendary label ‘Ladomat’ from Hamburg. After several further releases on labels like Tresor, Traum, Smallville or Bedrock Remute founded his very own Remute-label in 2008. The first release of the label, ‘Zuendli’, became an instant hit and is considered as one the most successful and celebrated tracks of the minimal techno era of the late 2000s. More punchy club hits and BBC1 favourites like the cheeky acid-house banger ‘Lampuca For Me’ or the spacey open air techno anthem ‘Gravity?’ followed and Remute also became a busy remixer for artists like GusGus, Solomun, Dominik Eulberg or Daniel Avery. Driven by the urge to push the boundaries of TECHNOlogy, it was never enough for Remute to deliver dancefloors hits only. Since the beginning of his career Remute was the sole ruler of his artistic vision and no managers, no agents and no producers were ever allowed to interfere with his work: While others in the early 2010s were busy to jump on the EDM-bandwaggon and took the first opportunity to sell out, Remute devoted himself to commercially risky and artistically uncompromising projects like ‘24’, which is a 24 hour long ambient recording (named by Mixmag as a ‘24 hour anthem’) and ‘REMUTE24’, a series of digital music releases remixing news headlines running for over 6 years, week by week, non-stop. Additionally he released highly successful J-Pop with his song ‘Play The Game’, recorded a Cyberpunk-esque soundtrack for the classic silent film ‘Metropolis’ with his 2014 album ‘Yoshiwara’ (got him ‘Album Of The Month’ honours in Mixmag) and was very active as a soundtrack-producer for several videogames. After over 15 years in music business and countless gigs from Miami to Moscow to Tokio, 2018 is a pivotal year for Remute: His album ‘Limited’, a hybrid release consisting of 7” vinyl and a 3,5” floppy disk, is regarded as a trailblazer of a strong floppy disk comeback… as a valid music format! With some clever usage of technology and creative dealing with the data limitations of this format, Remute once more succeeds in establishing his very own technologic sound aesthetics and setting new distinctive trends for unique performances while constantly questioning the status quo. Besides getting enthusiastically labelled as ‘limited techno’ by CBC, the Los Angeles Times also points out that he is Techno’s only true Disk Jockey - literally.

Ice Guys is a cute platform jump’n’run by Protovision for 1 or 2 players simultaneously. What’s more, the game features nice multicolor graphics and superb digisynth music.
What is Ice Guys all about? The story so far: During the last, snow-rich winter, from some unknown location lots of little, mean monsters came and decided to kidnap some snowmen! And so, lots of these beloved creatures disappeared over night from gardens, sidewalks and parks, leaving big holes in the beautiful winter landscape. Two former Antarctic researchers, which are now retired and have opened an ice café, can’t accept this impertinence by any means. They work out a plan and decide to fight against the nasty little monsters, to let the snowmen return to freedom.
Ice Guys features a unique game concept, Bubble Bobble could be a named as a far relative. The objective is to throw snowballs at the little unfriendly beasts, so that these get stuck in an avalanche. You then can push this avalanche, it will roll down and hit further monsters - but be careful, as you probably don’t want to hit your team mate or even become a victim of your own avalanche! In the beginning the enemies can be defeated quite easily, so you can make yourself familiar with the game. But soon it will become harder and fighting the monsters won’t be that smooth!

Tom, the little tomcat, has gained a lot of experience already in his first adventure (It’s Magic), his journey to the outside world. After he returned to the Dream Islands and was celebrated as a great hero, he since lived happily at his master’s place, the wise wizard who teached him being a good magician as time passed.
Now the Dream Islands - there, all animals live together peacefully - are in danger. And what Tom doesn’t know yet is that he himself is conjuring up this danger by mistake! More about this you will get to know in the intro… But one thing is for sure: The Dream Islands will be pushed into chaos and the only one who can save them is our little Tom!
It’s Magic 1 was already nice, but It’s Magic 2 tops it by all means and is on its way to become a true C64 classic amongst the jump’n runs. In the picturesque intro you are introduced to the background of the game.
This game is PAL only.

It’s Magic by Protovision is a jump’n run platformer with extremely cute graphics. The main character of the game is a little tomcat named Tommy - he is very curious and so he wants to be the first one who leaves his home world, the Dream Islands.
To make this plan come true, he signs on at a wizard.
One day, the wizard is out for some time, Tommy uses the opportunity: He takes the magic book and the crystal sphere and with the right spell, he catapults himself through time and space. Everything goes well it seems and he finds himself in the so called “Outside World”.
Fascinating - but soon Tommy wants to return home and realizes that this is impossible! He needs the crystal sphere for that, and some magic potions…
Unfortunately, the sphere broke down into thousand little pieces, and the potions are guarded by some monsters… And so, Tommy’s first adventure begins, and you can experience it with him. Meanwhile, the successor is available, too: It’s Magic 2.
It’s Magic consists of three worlds, each one is divided into 8 sections.
In each world a new graphic set expects you. To leave a section, you have to collect all diamonds and find a magic potion. This potion is carried around by one of the little monsters which run and fly around everywhere. And when you reach the level’s end and cannot leave - no problem: It’s Magic scrolls to the left and the right, so you can run back any time.
This is also useful in other cases: For example you can run after a monster until you get it. To do away with these creatures, you got an - of course magical - shot. Depending on the kind of the beastie more or less hits are sufficient to let it blow up in pink dust.

ASB stands for long, turn-based space strategy matched for 1 to 4 players.
Who builds the biggest interplanetary empire and prevails over the other players and the aggressive mutants?
Two distinct game modes are available: In the Classic Version, a solo player or a group of 2 to 4 competitors fight against an evil computer enemy known as Deep Jones.
The Advanced Version (where Deep Jones does not participate) is played according to more complex rules that require skilful planetary management: Investments in areas such as research, technological modernisation and defence must be balanced as to ensure adequate living conditions for the population.

Neutron is a fast-paced vertical shoot-em-up for the Commodore 64 (PAL).
This version was created for RGCD’s C64 16KB Cartridge GameDev Compo 2019.
All programming, graphics, and sound by Sarah Jane Avory.
(C) 2019 Protovision.
NB: Although the game has been coded for PAL, it will run quite happily on an NTSC machine, just at a faster speed.
History:
Back in the 80s, after loving playing the arcade game Star Force, I coded my own version on the Commodore 64, one I named Neutron. The game was finished, but never released as Orpheus, the company I was working for at the time, closed down before Neutron could be released…
I still had all the files, but time passed by, and when I moved house many years later, seeing no reason keeping all my old computers, I (rather foolishly looking back now) binned everything, including all my old disks.
Fast forward to the present, and after suffering a bit of burnout while writing lots of novels (I’m also a self-published author), I decided to have a bit of fun and code some C64 games. After coming across the 16Kb cartridge competition, I decided I’d enter that, and thought Neutron would be ideal.
And so I now present Neutron, a re-born version of the game I coded a long time ago. Only this time, with the benefit of lots of coding experience, this game is much improved, in every way.
Features:
9 challenging stages of increasing difficulty.
Player weapon upgrades.
3 different background styles.
Over 18 types of enemies.
Mid-stage mini-bosses.
End of stage boss.
Controls:
Joystick in port 2, or Keyboard:
S - Up.
X - Down.
< - Left.
> - Right.
SPACE - Fire!
