by Dysphonix
Dysphonix’ Vibrator EP is characterized by heavily textured synthesizer work, fleeting and nostalgic melodies, aggressive breakbeats and hard driving dance rhythms influenced by a wide range of musical artists including Kraftwerk, Front 242, Orbital, Depeche Mode, and Aphex Twin.
Defying genres as always, Dysphonix draws from a wide palette of electronic music cultures including drum & bass, breakcore, synthpop, and techno. This is the first widely available commercial release from this artist that has composed and remixed electronic tracks since the early 1990s.
Dan Dysphonix (a.k.a. Dysphonix, dsx) is an electronic music producer, performer, remixer, and DJ that resides in the St. Louis area. The Dysphonix moniker was invented in 1994 after performing as a keyboardist and writing music in various industrial and electronic-based bands between 1989-1993. The late iconic St. Louis DJ Jajo, gave Dysphonix his first opportunity to perform his live techno in the legendary dance club, Fallout, in 1995. This performance helped launch his numerous live techno performances in the mid to late 90’s. Dysphonix has also released original and remix material under underground and boutique labels like Nepol Records (2000), Silver 7 Records (1998), and Stepwise (1997). Since 2003, Dysphonix has concentrated on experimental electronic dance music production and creation of other media including video and sound for film.
by Cold Fusion & Jamie D.
Cold Fusion & Jamie D’s RA-100 EP features four new tracks of dark, bass-heavy drum & bass. No gimmicks here – this is d&b at it purest. With original cover art by Martin Hekker, author of Manmachine (www.fightevilwithevil.com).
by Kid Droid
Toxin features four new drum & bass tracks from Kid Droid, featuring the “pure electro-static mayhem” of the title track, to the arena-filling synths of Critical Mass, to the chill, rolling melodies of “Someday”.
by Borja
Guardian of the Mountains is Borja’s debut release on Droidsong, with five tracks of chill melodic halftime drum & bass. Borja’s signature melodies are interlaced with light, funky breaks, resulting in a sound that seamlessly combines the natural with the synthetic.
Borja hails from the depths of Washington’s forests, where he was inspired by the vastness of the Cascade Mountains and the Universe. He creates aural landscapes. He began his epic journey at an early age creating noise, ambient, downtempo, metal, and punk. Borja’s love for the Universe emanates through his music. Humbled by the experience of life Borja aims to evoke to the senses.
by Gaia13
Gaia13′s Trail of Funk gets the remix treatment by four of the midwest’s best electronic musicians. Each artist takes a different approach – from drum & bass to industrial and experimental breaks, each one taking the song to new places while building off the original themes.
Electronic music composer and producer Jim Baltz, well known for his live performances in his hometown of Saint Louis, is the man behind the hypnotic sounds written under the pseudonym Gaia13. Gaia is a mythological name for Earth, and 13 symbolizes the goal of transforming through music life on our 12-month-cycle planet. “I don’t cling to a particular tempo when I write, and because I’m influenced by so many musical styles, from Aphex Twin to Jimi Hendrix, to various traditional music, I follow my instincts and let the music happen naturally”. Baltz’s style meanders along the boundaries of IDM, downtempo, and drum ‘n bass, often incorporating treated instruments and vocals. His first album “Life on Planet Earth” was called “the best electronic CD” by Minor Scale Magazine in Saint Louis and his second, “Inside the Star Furnace” remained at the top of the charts on KFJC in California for more than a month in 2003. Gaia13′s latest full-length release has enjoyed even more success, reaching number one on the weekly playlists at KFJC, appearing on the KDHX “artist spotlight” in Saint Louis, and receiveing great reviews by international press and radio in Germany, France, Brazil, and Italy. “The Sea Turtle Project” is an album grounded by complex but consistent percussion and solid bass, and layered with interwoven and transcendent melodies. It’s the result of 10 months worth of recording and producing in the studio. “I went in totally new directions with The Sea Turtle Project,” says Baltz, “meticulously adding rhythmic and melodic elements to songs which I had written and performed over the previous year.” At times laid back and peaceful, at times nail-bitingly intense, and always danceable, the 16 song Sea Turtle Project is Baltz’s favorite work so far.
by Quadratic
Between The Cracks forges fragments from drum & bass’s many eras — from the latest footwork mutations to classic breakbeat hardcore — into a multifaceted rhythm complex strong on hooks, atmospherics and junglist references.
Quadratic crafts dance floor oddities that skirt the boundaries of dubstep, techno and detroit electro. since their first EP release in 2008, the long-simmering collaboration of Chris Widman and Colin Harris of Abstract Science has impressed Chicago crowds with dynamic live performances opening for Rusko and DJ Distance at Smartbar; Kode9 at Sonotheque; Daedelus and King Cannibal at the Empty Bottle; and Hudson Mohawke at the Abbey Pub. Chris widman is best known as a dj and long-time host of the Chicago radio program Abstract Science on WLUW 88.7FM. over the years, he has shared the bill with a diverse cast of underground luminaries — including Amon Tobin, Cinematic Orchestra, Jaga Jazzist, M83, Meat Beat Manifesto, Monolake, Plaid, The Orb, Skream, Unkle and Ulrich Schnauss—played every type of event imaginable, from raves to operas, and is now a smartbar resident dj. colin harris is an agile developer who spent many hours of his youth tweaking lines of code, playing with music trackers (and guitars), and pumping hours of bass-drive out of his computer subwoofer. graduating from a casio sk5 to fruity loops to ableton live, harris has transformed his programming skills to adapt custom devices for live performance. The duo first met in 1998 at Widman’s club residency in Columbia, Missouri, where he first encouraged, and eventually, invaded Harris’ music projects: Widman’s experience as a DJ and drummer complementing Harris’s sense of melody and technical dexterity. the result is Quadratic.
by Overthink
New recruit Overthink drops four tracks of melodic, synthetic electronica on the Legacy EP. His chiptune roots show through in his unique approach to drum & bass, where metallic melodies melt over highly quantized breaks, like a rebooted soundtrack to some obscure 8-bit video game.
Saint Louis artist Overthink is well-known for his chiptune exploits, and he brings heavy synth melodics to his debut drum & bass EP on Droidsong. He specializes in lo-fi electronic music, combining 8-bit old school chiptune sounds with modern production techniques. Resurrecting classic technology when necessary (like adding MIDI support to an Atari 2600), the result sounds like a new school reboot of some obscure retro video game.
by Various Artists
Four unique tracks from artists Borja, Overthink, Quadratic, and Kid Droid serve as reminders to the future of what life sounded like before the singularity.
Borja’s Ephemeral Mountain revolves around cut-up beats, floating away into widescale, cinematic beauty while things grounded with a solid bassline.
Overthink’s Blood Moon starts with Grime-like beats and low end. Electronic melody then takes over, weaving synthetic basslines over staccato programmed breaks.
Ancient Ways is Quadratic’s newest boundary-pushing crossover of Chicago Juke and broken breakbeats. A bouncing kickdrum is the main driver here: glitch, clubby and chilled at the same time. Rumbling, wobbling basslines move up and down, as clap beats and shaken percussion add rhythm to this slice of future bass music.
Kid Droid closes things out with Xunantunich, moving from tribal percussion to booming, busting beats and more of Kid Droid’s deadly subs, the tune is as low-slung and late-night as they come.

by Kid Droid
Project Onyx is veteran producer Kid Droid’s first non drum & bass release, and features four tracks that take leads from drum & bass and dubstep, but veers far away from the standard rulebook. The result is dark and moody, and the tracks are equally at home in headphones or on a dancefloor.

Borja hails from the depths of Washington’s forests, where he was inspired by the vastness of the Cascade Mountains and the Universe. He creates aural landscapes. by Overthink
With the feel of a treasure trove of lost old school videogame soundtracks, Overthink’s chiptune-style funk takes you back to days of late-night sessions fighting Wario and exploring dungeons in 8-bit glory. Drenched with synthesized strings and 8-bit bleeps, Urban Heat Island is one more quest to finish, one more boss to beat, one more powerup to grab.

by Dysphonix
While a lot of “C”’s core structure draws from traditional forms of electronic dance music, in certain aspects, the album switches direction and uses less orthodoxical techno music concepts. Instead of predictable minimalistic loops, soaring synth passages float on abrasive industrial rhythms that follow a compositional style more closely associated with movements from a sonata or a symphony rather than a modern dance track. Influences from multiple genres including acid, breakbeats and EBM can be found throughout. The 6 track EP is essentially only 3 musical pieces, two of which are remixes of the other. So while the musical concepts are somewhat narrow in conceptual gamut, the exploration of the sonic possibilities within the remixed pieces is where the listener can find the most interesting aspects of “C”.

Rhythmic MU-6 is the second single from Droidsong Recordings, featuring four previously unreleased tracks. MU-6′s style ranges from the new school minimal sound, to jazz-infused liquid funk, to dark, rumbling drum & bass.
MU-6 is a newcomer to the dnb scene, specializing in darker shades of drum & bass. His newest tunes push the boundaries of dnb crossing over into dubstep and drumstep while staying true to the dnb vibe.
MU-6 started producing music in the mid nineties, honing his skills for more than fifteen years before an official release. He brings a distinctive techno influence to all of his tunes, layering deep basslines under TB-303 loops and synths.
by Cold Fusion & Jamie D.
Following up on their solid RA-100 EP, The Progression EP is four more tracks of bass-heavy, no-frills drum & bass. The focus for Cold Fusion & Jamie D is production (as always), and their signature sound still has that air of the late 90s, when drum & bass was still dark and deep underground.
by Quadratic
Chicago’s Quadratic returns with a genre spanning EP of dancefloor oddities, including a remix from Chrissy.
The opener “Slow Down” is a tempo morphing explosion of classic breaks, hip hop beats and arpeggios. The titular “Wrong Lane” is an ode to the Detroit electro of Cybotron and the dangers of long distance driving. Tech-step synths and laconic bleeps fuel the footwork inspired “Sadness Will Last Forever”. “Nice it Existed at All” starts with half-time drum n’ bass and builds layers of breezy melodies peppered with frenetic breaks. The EP closes out with an early morning house remix of “Wrong Lane” by Night Owl Diner/Loose Squares impresario Chrissy(formerly known as Murderbot).

by Gaia13
Earth-rooted melodies mesh with strings, woodwinds, and mediums not so easily defined as Gaia13 presses a footprint of trip-hop beats, sporadic experimental rhythms, and heavy-handed funk grooves into the foundation of his music.
Gaia13 creates a lush downtempo vibe with ambient and experimental textures, punctuated by drum n bass style breaks. The first album “Life on Planet Earth” was called “the best electronic CD” by Minor Scale Magazine in Saint Louis and the second, “Inside the Star Furnace” remained at the top of the charts on KFJC in California for more than a month in 2003.
“The Sea Turtle Project” (2005) is grounded by complex but consistent percussion and bass layered with interwoven and transcendent melodies. It’s the result of 10 months worth of recording and producing in the studio.
“I went in totally new directions with The Sea Turtle Project” said Gaia13 composer and producer Jim Baltz. At times laid back and peaceful, at times nail-bitingly intense, the 16 track Sea Turtle Project is a powerful and danceable masterpiece.
